Quality, the notion is being discussed widely in every field of human affairs. The history of human evolution in a cultured society has proved it time and again that education has crafted creative and resourceful humans who contributed the nation to develop beyond expectations. Education and more importantly higher education that seems to provide the young minds to the service of the nation is being restructured and revised at different levels to ensure quality. Again, it has been the theme of majority of discussions and debates in diverse social and educational settings. We at Arts, Science and Commerce College, attempt to bring all the stakeholders of education together to wider the perspective of such discussions and debates. It is an endeavour to provide a formal dais to the researchers, teachers, students, and other stakeholders to exchange their ideas to ensure quality in education in general and higher education in particular.

Arts, Science and Commerce College, Manmad is one of the oldest colleges of Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir, the leading educational institute in Maharashtra. It was established in 1969 with the initiatives of Late Loknete Vyankatrao Hiray, the promoter of the institute. It came into existence out of the charity of Honourable Tukaram Barku Sonawane; the philanthropist who donated land for the college. The college follows “ Bahujan Hitay,Bahujan Sukhay” the Motto of the parent institute in true spirit. Since its inception, the college aims to avail the opportunities of higher education to the deprived masses of the society. There has been a peer team of the great academicians and scholars who have imparted a rich academic heritage of 50 years to the college. This heritage begins with the first Principal of the college, Dr. M. S. Patil, the renowned literary writer and critic who has been recently honoured with Sahitya Academy Award, the most prestigious award given by Government of India for his outstanding literary contribution.

The college is reaccredited with ‘A’ grade in the second cycle of NAAC. It offers UG & PG programmes in all three streams. The first PG programme of the college was introduced in 1989 and today there are 06 PG courses in the college. Keeping abreast of time, the college also offers job oriented vocational diploma and degree courses in different fields. Under B.Voc. we have degree courses in Computer Hardware, Electronic Instrument Repairing and Maintenance, Under Community College we offer Diploma courses in Food Processing Technology, Medical Laboratory and Molecular Diagnostic, Banking and Finance and English for Business and Competitive Exam. We also offer free of cost computer training for our students through a tie- up with NGO. It offers a Certificate Course in Basic Computing of six months. The college has the centre of YCMOU that facilitates opportunities of learning through Distant Education. Taking cognizance of the modern technology, we also facilitate online courses to our students with collaboration with Swayam and NPTEL. We take utmost care of availing all the central and State Govt. as well as UGC scholarship schemes to our Students.

We have an efficient Sport Department that supports’ representation of our students in competitions at State and University levels. The Board of Student Development implements various useful schemes for our students. The extension activities through NSS and NCC help students to reach to the society to understand and find out solutions to the social problems. The activities of the Dept. of Extra Mural bring together all sectors of the society for better dialogue. As a part of our social welfare activity we are connected with 24 neighboring high-schools to provide laboratory facility to them so that they can have hands on experience. Since we have more number of girl-students, we undertake to empowering women by different means like awareness campaign and special educational program for them.

Even though the college is situated in rural area which has also been long affected by draught, yet it has mobilized a conducive learning environment. The campus is almost of six acres with an enriched library with e –book facility, well equipped science laboratory and Green Gym. We try to avail all facilities to our students coming from below poverty line and agriculture background.

We have a registered alumni association. It includes the dignitaries of respective position and caliber of the society. The alumni also contributes to the development of the college. Our focus has been to impart quality based education and therefore we bring together all our alumni and stakeholders to get insights from them. We follow a standard syllabus designed by the scholars and prescribed by SPPU. In future, we aspire to focus on advance research in all disciplines, advance sports facility and career oriented initiatives for our students. We are obliged by our institutional vision, mission and objectives and strive consistently to fulfill them.
