Principal Message
Quality, the notion is being discussed widely in every field of human affairs. The history of human evolution in a cultured society has proved it time and again that education has crafted creative and resourceful humans who contributed to the nation beyond expectations. Education, and more importantly, higher education, which provides young minds for the service of the nation, is being restructured and revised at different levels to ensure quality. Again, it has been the theme of many discussions and debates in diverse social and educational settings.
We at Arts, Science, and Commerce College attempt to bring all the stakeholders of education together to widen the perspective of such discussions and debates. It is an endeavor to provide a formal dais for researchers, teachers, students, and other stakeholders to exchange their ideas to ensure quality in education in general and higher education in particular.
Arts, Science, and Commerce College, Manmad, is one of the oldest colleges of Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir, the leading educational institute in Maharashtra. It was established in 1969 with the initiatives of Late Loknete Vyankatrao Hiray, the promoter of the institute. The college came into existence due to the charity of Honourable Tukaram Barku Sonawane, a philanthropist who donated land for the college. The college follows "Bahujan Hitay, Bahujan Sukhay," the motto of the parent institute, in true spirit. Since its inception, the college has aimed to provide opportunities for higher education to the deprived masses of society.
The college is reaccredited with an ‘A’ grade in the second cycle of NAAC. It offers UG & PG programs in all three streams. The first PG program of the college was introduced in 1989, and today, there are six PG courses available. Keeping up with the times, the college also offers job-oriented vocational diploma and degree courses in different fields. Under B.Voc., we offer degree courses in Computer Hardware, Electronic Instrument Repairing and Maintenance. Under Community College, we offer diploma courses in Food Processing Technology, Medical Laboratory and Molecular Diagnostic, Banking and Finance, and English for Business and Competitive Exams. Additionally, we provide free computer training for our students through a tie-up with an NGO, offering a six-month Certificate Course in Basic Computing.
We have an efficient sports department that supports student participation in competitions at state and university levels. The Board of Student Development implements various useful schemes for our students. The extension activities through NSS and NCC help students reach society to understand and find solutions to social problems. The Department of Extra Mural Activities brings together all sectors of society for meaningful dialogue. As part of our social welfare initiatives, we are connected with 24 neighboring high schools to provide laboratory facilities so that students can gain hands-on experience. Given the significant number of female students, we undertake initiatives to empower women through awareness campaigns and special educational programs.
Even though the college is situated in a rural area long affected by drought, it has mobilized a conducive learning environment. The campus spans almost six acres, featuring an enriched library with an e-book facility, well-equipped science laboratories, and a Green Gym. We strive to provide all necessary facilities to our students, especially those from below the poverty line and agricultural backgrounds.
We have a registered alumni association that includes dignitaries from various fields. The alumni actively contribute to the college's development. Our focus remains on imparting quality-based education, and we regularly engage with our alumni and stakeholders for valuable insights. We follow a standard syllabus designed by scholars and prescribed by SPPU. Looking ahead, we aspire to advance research across disciplines, enhance sports facilities, and introduce career-oriented initiatives for our students. We remain committed to our institutional vision, mission, and objectives, striving consistently to fulfill them.
